Adopt-A-Road Program
Our first cleanup date is Saturday, April 19. This will coincide with the 2008 "Great American Cleanup". Rockland Road Runners will continue to support Keep Rockland Beautiful by participating in a cleanup of the outer loop around the lake on that day.
We plan on meeting at the south entrance at 8:15 am. Ideally we are looking for enough volunteers to enable us to split the two mile stretch in half, having four people on either end of each one mile section with two people on either side of the road. In this way we should be finished in a little more than a half an hour. Volunteers are asked to bring gloves, but we can provide them. Please contact John Melican if you plan on helping. Saturday & Sunday, June 7-8. RRR will once again participate in the American Cancer Society's Rockland County Relay For Life. This is our sixth year!
Well over sixty teams will be participating in the event which starts on Saturday June 7th at noon and continues throughout the day and night until dawn. The goal of our team is to have at least one member on the track for the duration of the eighteen hour event. This is not a race.
We need volunteers to participate either as a runner or walker for half or full hour intervals. The primary objective is, of course, to raise funds under our team's name for the ACS. So please help make this year's event as successful as last year's in which we raised over $6000.
This year's location has changed to the Rockland Community College campus. Team tents will be set up outdoors as in previous years, and RCC has the added advantage of being able to accommodate us all indoors in case of inclement weather.
Please mark your calendar. Family and friends are invited. We rely heavily on club members, their families, and friends to be generous in supporting us in this team event to fight cancer. Participants and donors can sign up at the Relay For Life of Rockland County website. To join us, please enter team name: Rockland Road Runners. Donations can be allocated to a participant or to the team as a whole. If you are not sure how to allocate your donation, we suggest allocating it to the team. This allows our team captain to allocate donations as necessary to help all RRR participants reach their quota.
