RRCAText Box: RRR storms Boston!
Text Box: There were some very special RRR members hoofing it on the streets of Boston Monday, while the rest of us stayed inside glued to a computer, tracking their every step from our warm seats. They slopped along the 26.2 mile course while a Nor’Easter brewed up its version of a tea party. We who remained behind questioned their sanity.
The evening before I was really worried! The reports broadcast by the Boston Athletic Association warned of hypothermia, dangers of flooding and driving rain. It certainly wasn’t the Boston everyone hoped for. The members who were skeptical hung up their sneakers and chose to stay home. But there were a few who trained hard all winter and weren’t quite ready to call it quits.
As the time neared to make the journey, the runners faced family members pleas to stay home, but committed to the journey regardless. Some members reached out to friends for advice. I myself could not think of any advice other then to stay home. Text Box: Since that wasn’t what these intrepid runners wanted to hear, I decided instead to make light of the situation: “don’t wear white” was one of my comments; “try to stay warm and dry” was another. I wanted to say “get your head examined” , but I refrained.
Even with my worry I felt confident that the group was prepared and that they would endure. They met for dinner and spent the evening together. They shared strategies, then went to bed early to rest for the toughest race of their lives. They awoke on race day, put on their game faces and rain gear and attacked the 26.2 miles. On a day where the elite runners were slowed 7-10 minutes by the weather our RRR friends’ times seemed little affected. They were not far from their goals made prior to the forecast. I am really proud of them all!
We were able to field only a Masters men’s team, and I will share the placing when it is posted.
Way to go RRR!

Special points of interest:

· Out of 16, 70-79AG women entered in the event, 100% of them finished the race.  This is the only age division that had a 100% completion rate and our very own Grandma lead the way!

· Point of interest, more men then women dropped out of the race shy of the finish.
