Text Box: George Wodicka Hook Mountain Half Marathon glistens in the sun!

The 18th annual George Wodicka Hook Mountain Half Marathon’s weather this year was so wonderful, that no one remembered the cold chilling rain that haunted the event in 2006. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky and the warm weather made for a pleasurable outing. Relocating the race to the south parking area seemed like a tragedy when we were first told we had to move, but with a great team effort the new location and new courses, combined with the weather, was a delightful change of pace. Race director Rich Tinger made sure to put in an application for good weather and must have paid mother nature a little graft to get such a beautiful day. Close to 400 participants competed this year, in addition to the walkers.

For the past four years TriLife of NYC has made the Hook Half part of their training schedule. They bike up from the city, run the half and then ride home. The women’s winner TriLife teammate Lauren Beam was proud of her first running win. Lauren is a triathlete whose strength is the swim. She coaches New York Universities swim team. Our very own Carol Guzinski was the women’s masters division champion and took home the Adi Steingraber award for being the first Rockland ladies finisher . The Men’s race was won by Garnerville resident Jonathan Shaw, who also took home the Adi Steingraber award for being the first Rockland male. Michael Kolbrenner was the top masters runner and 2nd overall. Micheal Maidman was the youngest runner, 13 years old, to complete the Half Marathon, in an impressive 2:00:30.

The 5k female overall winner was Laura DiMarino and the masters female champion
was her little friend and training buddy Olga Carriel. The Men’s division of the 5K was
won by STAC student Brad McNiff who out distanced the field by nearly 2 minutes.
Kenneth Pfaff, 53, of Cortlandt Manor was the top men’s master.

As usual the volunteers did a stupendous job! There were a lot of adjustments needed in
the last 2 weeks and everyone stepped up to assure that the race went off.
Thanks to all the volunteers! Without volunteers these great events would not exist.

Please note: that there is a board meeting prior to the general meeting, so we would appreciate that you remain in the vestibule until the board meeting is adjourned. Empire State Games 2007

Text Box: A small member would like a big favor!

My name is Michael DiMarino, perhaps you know my mom. My kindergarten class
really wants to win the Box Tops for Education contest that my school (New City
Elementary) is conducting. Putting it simply, the class that collects the most Box Tops
wins an Ice Cream party. They also mentioned something about raising money for the school, I guess that’s good too. My teacher Ms. Bray loves ice cream and we want to win the party for her. We have one problem, a second grade class, has a mom that works for the cafeteria and she is contributing the box tops from the products used in the cafeteria to her child’s class. This may seem unfair but we will not go down without a fight. When the going gets tough the tough get going. If you want to help, please clip and save the Box Tops proofs...it looks like the sample mom provided above. Mail them to me, Michael DiMarino, 32 Cragmere Oval, New City, NY 10956. My class mate Samantha Pollak and I are both RRR members and although we are small we are fiercely competitive and really want to win despite the disadvantage. The contest ends May 31st!

Thanks for your help!
