Text Box: Team RRR at the NYRR, TGL Classic Run as One

Thirty five Rockland Road Runner Members made it to the line of the
NYRR Run as One 4 miler. A total of 5707 runners participated in the
event that to build awareness and to raise money for lung cancer research
in support of the Thomas G. Labrecque Foundation. The weather was
favorable and team RRR was well represented despite some hardships.
The women’s 40+ team was rearing to go on Friday, coming off a win at
the Brooklyn Half Marathon just 2 weeks ago. We coaxed Carol Guzinski
to get baby sitting and join us for the race and all seemed to be falling in
place. But then there was an unfortunate turn of events, Laura DiMarino
came down with a stomach virus the day before and to make things even
worse, Josephine Patten lost her father and was turning her thoughts
towards plans to travel to Ireland. We did all make it to the line and
although we were not in the best health or spirit we combine for 2nd place
in the women’s 40+ Division. Carol led the way with a win in the 40—44
age group and her queasy teammate Laura hung on for a 3rd place showing.
Josephine may have had to run with a heavy heart but it didn’t weight on
her legs, that took her to a 2nd place showing in the 50-59 division.

Sheila Casey who just missed a trophy in her 30-39 division and Shelly
Shrem joined, Carol, Josephine and Laura for a 8th place showing in the
women’s open division. Marie Killeen continued her quest for hardware
taking 3rd in the 70-79 division. Mariam Kaminer and Enilda Indyke
joined her for 3rd place in 60+ division. Josephine, Mary pat Wolff and
Patti Gindoff teamed up for a 5th place in the women’s 50+ division.

The men had a decent day with Jim Dangler leading the way in 23:06 not
a bad recovery from Boston. Top 10 placing for 2 men’s teams the 50+
division had Bernard Patten, Micheal Nusblat and Ernest Joseph to thank
for its 9th place showing. Steve Borton, John Singer and Otto Mond teamed
up for 6th in the men’s 60+ division.

Heartfelt condolences to the Patten family for their loss. Josephine and
Bernard are key members of team RRR and their devotion to the team
certainly was felt today. Ernest and I thank them, and all the members
that ran today, your commitment to RRR is truly appreciated and we hope
you enjoy the camaraderie as much as we do. Way to go team RRR!
