Text Box: NYRR Healthy Kidney 10K— No Rain, No Pain.

The weather Saturday wound up being favorable for running, despite the threat of rain. Several RRR
Members ran the hilly 10K course around Central park. With big prize money, Starbucks gift certificates
to the age group winners and probably the best technical shirts given out at any race, this crowd pleaser
drew over 7000 registered runners. Unfortunately this race is on the same weekend as our club race the
Marisa Fund 10K so RRR team attendance was weak, but the few runners that went certainly were strong.
Shelia Casey and I (Laura DiMarino) chit chatted before the race, sharing strategies and goals.
Sheila wanted to break 42:00...I had no doubt she’d do that. Sheila who has the luxury of a competitive
start, had never used the option before. I convinced her to take advantage of the view from the front,
And the result was an impressive 39:29...smashing her PR by over 6 minutes and her goal of 42:00
by quite a bit. I think we’ll see her up front where she belongs from now on. Sheila took home a 5th place
trophy in the 30-39 age group and a Starbuck’s certificate. Being able to view Sheila from a few yards behind
I was quite impressed with her performance. I later learned that I had won the 40-45 age group with a
39:44 effort, I was pleased that I choose to give it a go, and throw caution to the wind, still planning to double the next day at the Marisa Fund 10K. I felt good the first 2 miles so the choice seemed to be to go for it, I’m glad I did! Thanks to Ken Shelton for this great picture of a tired old lady, oh that’s me! Here are the results posted by Team RRR at the event.

Empire State Games 2007

Text Box: Box tops challenge ends soon….please send them by the deadline.

My name is Michael DiMarino, perhaps you know my mom. My kindergarten class really wants to win the Box Tops
for Education contest that my school (New City Elementary) is onducting. Putting it simply, the class that collects the
most Box Tops wins an Ice Cream party. They also mentioned something about raising money for the school, I guess
that’s good too. My teacher Ms. Bray loves ice cream and we want to win the party for her. We have one problem, a second grade class, has a mom that has access to box tops through work. This may seem unfair but we will not go down without a fight. When the going gets tough the tough get going. If you want to help, please clip and save the Box Tops proofs...it looks like the sample mom provided above. Mail them to me, Michael DiMarino, 32 Cragmere Oval, New City, NY 10956. My class mate Samantha Pollak and I are both RRR members and although we are small we are fiercely competitive and really want to win despite the disadvantage. The contest ends May 31st!

Your contributions and support are appreciated. Your friend Michael.
