Text Box: Chicago too hot to handle!
We are very happy to report the Carol Guzinski, Gary Lausin and Allison Schulman are alive and well after participating in the blistering heat at the Chicago Marathon. No personal best to report from these runners, getting to the finish in the 88 degree weather was comparable to finding an Oasis in the Sahara. Gary Lausin ran an impressive 3:46:44 for his first scorcher of a marathon. Carol “hates heat” her friends knew this and give her credit for gutting it out for just under 4 hours and getting to the finish. Ally who received treatment at a medical tent along the course got in around 4:16. I bet all three were pleased to get back to the room for an ice bath. And their friends are glad they are okay. Keep cool guys!
Text Box: Maine Marathon provides great weather!

Rockland Road Runners placed two women in the top five and who were the top two
masters women as well. Suzanne Laburt 44 attacked the rolling hills of Maine and was
kept company for most of the way by Laura DiMarino. At the halfway point Alisa
Carbone and Angie Joseph waited patiently to catch a glimse of the teammates who
were only separated by seconds at that point. At mile 19, Suz made her move pushing
onward hoping to maintain the 3:08 pace that was held up to that point. At the finish Suz
proved her persistent nature crossing in 3:09:58, Second women overall and top master.
dragging in a little behind, was her buddy Laura in 3:13:33 a personal best and good
enough for 4th overall among the women. Ernest Joseph, who loved the course and the
beautiful weather, 50 degrees at the start, ran well doing 3:45:37. Olga Carriel ran
the half marathon in a personal best of 1:44:54. All participants agreed that this is
defintitely a marathon to put on your list. Although the course is somewhat hilly it
Is wonderful on the body. First four and last four miles are flat, there are just as many
down hills as uphills and the course is shady and beautiful. Highly recommended!

It may have been steamy in Steamtown but that didn’t keep the RRR contingent from getting to the start. Mike Nusblat (bottom left) set out alone braving the heat that started near 70 degrees and rose to 80 by the end of the race. “Marathon Mike” strode in at 3:23, a personal best and just missing a trophy in his age group placing 4th. Gokhan Ozuner (bottom right) ran an impressive 3:34:33. Anthony Ferraro who had the company of Jim Dangler wanted to run 3:20 but bagged that idea when things heated up. Ed Brown and Jerry Sun made the same decision...too hot to fry...I mean try. Anyway, as they say, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. When the weather is right in a few weeks watch out NYC!

Westchester Marathon
The dynamic duo of Ricardo Hernandez and Gerardo Hernandez took on the Westchester Marathon. It wasn’t much cooler here in the tristate area Temperatures reaching close to 80 degrees during the race, none the less the pair lined up for their first marathon. Gerardo was ahead at the half but the negative splits posted by Ricardo gave him the edge and the faster time of the two on this day. Ricardo posted a 4:10:16 and Gerardo hung on for a 4:13:25. Congrats to both of you!
Portland Oregon Marathon
Not sure how the weather was out in Oregon, but it was reported that member James Connors ran a 4:04:51 at the Portland Oregon Marathon. Way to go Jim!
