Text Box: Partners in time!

Rafi and Shelly Shrem made the ultimate commitment, no not marriage….they did that already! Something more personal, they ran the marathon together the whole entire way! If you check the splits there is proof! Like most married couples there were a few disagreements, but in the end they came over the line together. Shelly qualified for Boston with the 3:51 and perhaps the happy pair will reunite for that event. Congrats to you both. Mavaltof!
Text Box: Devine teamwork!

Claire and Kate Devine showed true sisterhood by teaming up to run the marathon together. Kate the older by 2 years, at a very young 24 years old was the veteran having run NYC in 2006. The sisters trained together and set out to run the distance, together as a team. Another sibling duo made the same commitment, Eilleen Valerio and her brother Pete McDonagh made plans to experience the marathon together. Ironically our RRR sibling couples literally ran into each other along the course. They spent some time together along the course as a foresome and commented that being a group that size all decked out in RRR gear braught an occasional “go RRR” for the crowd”. The unexpected happened shortly after, they swapped partners! Eileen and Claire pulled ahead leaving their siblings behind. Pete and Kate spend some time together but in the end it was four individuals hanging on to make it to the finish. Ironically, Kate duplicated her 2006 marathon time right to the second. 3:32:32. Congrats to both families.
Text Box: The gangs all here!

A great big RRR Thanks to Ernest Joseph and Cheryl Langus for coordinating all the red carpet services for our marathoners. With an elite start for most of our gang and a competitive waiting area with private port-o-johns and a VIP escort to the RRR team has become accustomed to VIP treatment. One grateful participant compared their experience to that of the Titanic, First class v/s steerage. As you might have guessed the runners upgraded to first class could not complain. Transportation was also top rate! Thanks again!

Text Box: Sheila Casey Treadmills to a 3:08:58

Is it shocking that Sheila Casey did a 3:08 marathon, No! But how she trained may be. This stay home mom is bound to the treadmill during the week. Saturday and Sunday she gets to go outdoors, but otherwise she is wearing out treadmills at her gym. The 38 year old, has 40 minutes to do her treadmill workouts and says she makes every second count. She checks little Ava into the daycare at the gym then uses her time wisely making every second count. On the weekends she does a long run and a hill or speed workout. Like Paul Radcliff, having a baby has paid off. We all had a laugh at the meeting when Kathleen Daly expressed that maybe having a baby could help her training. Larry Wolf jumped in and suggested a signup sheet for volunteers to father the child. It was a great giggle but hopefully no one takes it seriously and a baby boom occurs.
Sheila also shared how she had set her goal at breaking last years time of 3:25 and therefore printed the wristband with that pace chart. Very shortly into the race she realized that wristband wasn’t going to help her. She committed to trying to maintain the unpredicted pace and forged on, not knowing what to expect. With all that time in the bank she gave herself a few short breaks to drink without running. Although we would like to say this was an “out of body” experience, she stated that she felt very much in her body all the way, but she was glad she went for it. Congrats Sheila
