Rockland Road RunnersRRCAText Box: Rockland Road Runners Holiday Party!
The 2007 holiday party ended the year with a lot of happy faces. The annual awards is a long time tradition and are presented each year at this party to some very worthy people.
The very first awards presented were the RRCA National Recognition awards. This award is given to members who have contributed a significant amount of time promoting road racing through their tireless service to their local club. Rockland Road Runners is proud to have so many wonderful volunteers, but each year it is my honor as President to nominate members to our National Affiliation, the Road Runners Club of America to be considered for this honor. I am proud to announce that both Ann McGrath Angerola and Frank Dickinson became the latest members of RRR to receive this national honor.
Ann (McGrath) Angerola was one of the early crew that forged the path for us to follow. She had served on the board in various roles including vice president. Although her current position is head of the Angerola household, years ago she was co-race director of the Women’s Distance Festival. Although the race has changed directors Ann’s contributions early on ensured its longevity and we were proud to celebrate its twenty fifth anniversary this past July. Congrats Ann!
Another champion of volunteerism is our webmaster Frank Dickinson. If you have visited the website you will have entered Frank’s realm. The website is constantly being updated and Frank is the man who does all the work. 2000 hours is a drop in the bucket considering the many years and hours this wonderful person has contributed to our organization. Grazie mi amore! Congrats Frank.
Dave Fernandez received his inspiration award from the 2006 recipient Steve Borton. The crowd cheered as he held his Trophy proudly above his head. Words of inspiration were shared by Dave Fernandez, Sr.. Steve Borton, praised our champion for inspiring us all! It was a mix of emotions as the very funny Steve Borton shared background on our winner. Laughs and tears were met by the joy of triumph. Congrats to Dave, you’re the best!
The Sun may rise but it never sets for our Volunteer of the Year, Jerry Sun. Cheryl Langus was thrilled to forward the torch of volunteer excellence to Jerry. He graciously exclaimed to his adoring fans that he was sure there were members that did more than he has. He may be humble but were are sure glad to have Jerry on our team. Whether or not he is running a race with RRR proudly on his chest, dropping water before a long run or typing a hundred or two names in at race registration, Jerry is irreplaceable to us in so many ways. Congrats Jerry!
Bernie Casserly received the Don Cordisco Award honoring his lifetime achievement of service to RRR. Like a cat with nine lives Bernie has contributed at least two, to the last 30 years of service to good old RRR. The fact that he still maintains his pace contributing to the board, coaching and helping at almost all the races can be contributed to his love of running, or some really good vitamins. We thank him for his devotion and hope to see him take home a third award 10 years from now.
Congrats to all our winners and to all our members for making Rockland Road Runners the great organization that it is.
Special thanks to Cheryl Langus for coordinating the party. To Ernest, Cheryl, Steve Borton and Rich Tinger for helping with the presentation. To Mike Nusblat, Diane Wannamaker and Jerry Sun for helping at the registration desk. Our 50/50 raffle was won by Fred Turk, but he did not except his winning but instead donated his portion to help with the expense of replacing the water fountain at the firehouse. Additional thanks to Ed Howard for the wonderful pictures that you can view on the link provided. Picture below….Dave Fernandez relishes in the spotlight of his honor! Text Box: Las Vegas Marathon, brings luck to the Shrems!
Role the dice and hit your lucky numbers, it was certainly in the cards for Shelly and Rafi as they repeated another pairing at the Las Vegas Marathon. Perhaps the strip brought them luck, as Shelly took a gamble and headed out west in search of a goal…..a marathon PR. There wasn’t any pressure, they had just ran well in NYC. But Shelly felt she had some change in her pockets after NY and wanted to spin the wheel one more time, she had nothing to loose and everything to gain. She shook the dice in her hands and threw a lucky 7, JACKPOT. 11:00 minutes off their time at the New York City Marathon. Please note, this was not a flat course! Congrats Shelly on your PR!
Text Box: NYRR Hot Chocolate 15K!
