People to People Grateful

Dolores Treger, Nyack
The writer is executive director,
People to People

Thank you, Mike Greco, and all the Rockland Road Runners for your magnificent donation of $6,000, presented to People to People. The "Turkey Trot," which is run at Rockland Lake, was again a huge success. Each year the number of runners increases, enabling the club many more opportunities to assist not-for-profit agancies.

I was honored to be in the company of Salvation Army Maj. Norman Garcia, Ted Jessup and George Lynch Jr., World War II veterans who are raising money for a statue of "G.I. Joe" through the Veterans Memorial Association of Piermont. To show you how wonderful this group is, within 20 minutes of their January meeting, $8,000 was pledged to aid the victims of the Tsunami, too.

Need I say more about how grateful I am to also be in the company of the Rockland Road Runners?

Is Pre-Race Registration and Race Packet Pickup available?

Yes! and we strongly encourage you to take advantage of it. We have had record numbers of participants in recent years, and race-day registration can become crowded. We know you would rather not wait on a long registration or packet pickup line, so take the time to register online or by mail, and visit us on either Tuesday, November 24 or Wednesday, November 25, between 12 noon and 8:00pm at The Raso Room, 4th Floor, Palisades Center Mall (next to ice rink entrance). You'll be glad you did!

What time should I arrive at the race?

Because of parking issues, it is highly recommended that you arrive NO LATER than 7:30 AM.

Are shirts available to race-day registrants?

No. We base our shirt purchases on the number of pre-registrants. If you absolutely must have one of our stylish, quality, long-sleeve TECHNO race shirts; you must pre-register. Use the links on this site to reach online registration at Active.com, or download and mail our printable application to arrive by November 20.

Can I purchase a shirt on race day?

No. It's not that we wouldn't love to take in a few more dollars for the charities we support, but we simply don't have extra shirts. Again, if you must have a shirt, please pre-register.

Do you allow walkers in the race?

Yes! In fact, we have families who have made it an annual tradition to come and walk with us Thanksgiving morning. Walkers pay the same entry fees, and receive the same amenities as runners: shirts to pre-registrants, refreshments, race packets, and the satisfaction of helping local Rockland charities.

Is there a separate start for walkers?

No, so we ask that walkers stand toward the rear of the start area to allow runners to start unimpeded, and for everyone to start safely.

Are there awards for competitive walkers?

No. There is no separate walker scoring category.

If I walk the course, must I wear a chip?

Yes! Because the Turkey Trot is a USATF certified event, all participants must wear a scoring chip. The cost of this is included in your entry fee, and we'll even remove it from your shoe at the finish line!

When can I see my results?

Printouts of Turkey Trot race results are posted at the event as soon as they become available from the scoring computers, so stick around a while after you finish. If you must get home to put the turkey in the oven, complete results will be posted here the following day. We'd love to run home from the race and post them immediately for you, but we didn't think you'd mind if we enjoy the rest of our Thanksiving Day with family, friends, and turkeys of our own!
